Phraya Sri Satta Nakarat | Nakhon Phanom Province


Take a stroll along the Mekong River and pay homage to Phaya Sri Satta Nakarat, the largest bronze Naga in the Northeast. It is enshrined on the Sri Satta Nakarat Plaza in front of the Forestry Office on Sunthon Wichit Road in Nakhon Phanom Municipality. After paying respects, enjoy the beautiful view of the Mekong River and the houses lining the river.
Phaya Sri Satta Nakarat in Nakhon Phanom Province is a prominent landmark on the banks of the Mekong River. It is a bronze statue of a seven-headed Naga enshrined on the bank of the embankment in front of the city. It is a symbol of faith. It is a sacred place where people come to make offerings. Every year, a ceremony to honor Phraya Sri Satta Nakarat is held in July.
Physical Characteristics
Size: 4.49 meters wide, 10.90 meters high, and weighs 9 tons.
Material: Cast entirely in brass.
Appearance: A seven-headed naga with a three-tiered coiled body, its head rising to spray water towards the Mekong River.
Composition: Surrounding fountains and a translucent naga body arch. Represents shedding its skin.
Pray for blessings from Phaya Sri Satta Nakarat, Nakhon Phanom, the legend of the seven-headed Naga, the guardian deity of the Mekong River.
Activities and Festivals Phaya Sri Satta Nakarat Worship Ceremony: Held annually on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month.
Performances: The festival features a variety of activities, including a Mor Lam performance, cultural performances by nine tribes and two nationalities, and OTOP product sales.
Transportation and Attractions Location: Located at the Na Muang Dam on the Mekong River, Nai Mueang Subdistrict, Mueang Nakhon Phanom District.
Getting there: Drive from Bangkok (approximately 10 hours), or fly to Nakhon Phanom Airport.
Facilities: Flowers, incense, candles, shops, and restrooms are available.
Nearby Activities: Stroll along the Mekong River, enjoy the scenery, and visit the walking street and the clock tower.
