Tourist attractions of Phra Pathom Chedi Temple | Nakhon Pathom Province
It is the largest stupa in Thailand. Nakhon Pathom Province uses Phra Pathom Chedi as the provincial seal. The current Phra Pathom Chedi was built during the reign of King Rama IV in 2396 B.E., with the King ordering the construction of a new stupa over the original stupa, which was an old stupa with an inverted bowl base and a prang spire on top. It is believed to have been built in the early 4th Buddhist century.
Phra Ruang Rojanarit is a standing Buddha image in the attitude of granting forgiveness, enshrined in a niche in the northern chapel in front of Phra Pathom Chedi. It was built during the reign of King Rama VI, with the head, hands, and feet taken from Si Satchanalai, Sukhothai Province.
The Phra Pathom Chedi Museum is located on the east side, opposite the ordination hall. Inside, antiques excavated from various places in Nakhon Pathom Province are kept, including the Ban Chiang and Dvaravati periods, such as Buddha images, stone Dharmachakra, medicine grinding stones, clay rosary beads, bracelets, antique silver, etc. It is also the storage place for Ya Le's coffin. and the altar used in the funeral of Ya Le. In addition, on the 12th waxing moon of the 12th month to the 5th waning moon of the 12th month (in November of each year), there is a ceremony to worship Phra Pathom Chedi, Phra Pathom Chedi.
Open for worship every Monday-Friday from 06.00-19.00 hrs. and Saturday-Sunday from 06.00-20.00 hrs.
