Wat Krok Krak, Krok Krak Subdistrict | Samut Sakhon Province
Wat Krok Krak, Krok Krak Subdistrict | Samut Sakhon Province
This ancient temple, located on the Tha Chin River, is over 200 years old. It was a significant temple during the reign of King Rama V, as the royal barge once docked at Wat Krok Krak during his royal tour from Bang Pa-in to Phetchaburi. Another interesting feature is the principal Buddha image in the ordination hall. This 100-year-old laterite Buddha image, in the Mara-Vijaya posture, is wearing sunglasses. It is believed that a person once made a vow to cure an eye injury, and offered sunglasses as a gesture of fulfillment.
However, when the vow was successful, the villagers covered it with gold leaf, making it look unattractive. Phra Khru Thammasakon (Luang Pu Krap) then devised a trick by replacing it with sunglasses.
