Wat Ming Mueang in Wiang Subdistrict, Mueang Nan District, Nan Province, Thailand.
Wat Ming Mueang is renowned for its beauty and unique character. It also houses the Nan City Pillar, a sacred site that visitors to Nan should pay homage to for good fortune.
Originally, this temple was abandoned, believed to have been built around 1857.
A large city pillar, a massive log requiring two people to embrace, was found in the ruins of the vihara. Later,
Chao Anantavoraritdet, the ruler of Nan, re-established the temple and named it "Wat Ming Mueang," after the name given to the city pillar, "Sao Ming Mueang" (meaning "the auspicious pillar of the city").
In 1984, the old temple was demolished and a new ordination hall was built in the contemporary Lanna style.
Its distinctive feature is the stucco reliefs on the exterior walls, a masterpiece by the Chiang Saen school of craftsmanship, renowned for their exquisite beauty. Inside,
there are murals depicting the daily life of the people of Nan, painted by contemporary local artists.
