Wat Phra That Doi Suthep Temple
Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is the most important temple in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Built in the early 19th century, Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is notable for its seven-headed Naga statues lining the steps leading up to the temple, which also houses a golden Chiang Saen-style pagoda and beautiful Lanna architecture.
The view of Chiang Mai from here is also spectacular. Wat Phra That Doi Suthep also hosts the Tiew Khu Doi festival, a journey up Doi Suthep to pay homage to the Buddha's relics enshrined there. It is an experience well worth a visit. Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is located in Tambon Suthep, Amphoe Mueang, Chiang Mai Province. Doi Suthep is 11 kilometers from Chiang Mai city. If you are traveling by car, take the Huay Kaew-Chiang Mai University-Chiang Mai Zoo route. You will see signs for Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. There are also minibuses running from Chiang Mai University.
They operate from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Locals would say, You haven't really gone to Chiang Mai unless you've been to Wat Phratat doi suthep.
