Koh Samet | Rayong

Visitors to Koh Samet looking for unspoiled beauty have to get away from the more developed Beaches along the east coast, though even the most popular beaches are quite beautiful. Those looking for more relaxation can book Rooms at the more upscale resorts on the west coast, which are spectacular places to watch sunsets.
◉ Recommended Attractions in Each Bay
1. Lively, Activity-Packed, and Vibrant at Night (Northern-Upper Eastern Zone)
• Sai Kaew Beach: The longest, widest, and most popular beach on the island. The water is crystal clear, and the sand is fine and white. During the day, it's full of water activities (jet skiing, banana boating), while at night the beach transforms into restaurants, cafes, beanbag chairs, and the highlight is the spectacular fire baton show.
• Ao Pai: Located next to Sai Kaew Beach (accessible on foot), the atmosphere is similar but on a smaller scale. Popular with young people and foreign tourists, it features beach bars and chill restaurants at night.
• Ao Hin Khok: A small bay between Sai Kaew Beach and Ao Pai, with beautiful rock formations. It's home to statues of a mermaid and Phra Aphai Mani. The atmosphere is a mix of lively and relaxing.
2. Relaxing, Balanced Atmosphere (Not too quiet, not too crowded) (Central Eastern Zone)
• Ao Wong Duean: A beautiful bay shaped like a crescent moon. It's the second largest bay after Sai Kaew Beach. It has complete facilities including restaurants, accommodations, mini-marts, and beach bars, but it's not as crowded as Saeng Kaew Beach, making it a perfect bay for families.
• Ao Tubtim (Ao Phutsa): A small bay with a warm atmosphere, shaded by trees, perfect for sunbathing, reading, and relaxing by the sea. The water is calm and clear, ideal for swimming.
• Ao Cho: A small bay next to Ao Wong Duean, with a long wooden pier extending into the sea, a beautiful spot for taking photos and checking in. It has a slow-paced atmosphere with a Rasta Bar where you can chill and listen to music.
3. For the Indie crowd who love peace and privacy (South East Zone)
Ao Lung Dam: Distinguished by its "classic wooden pier" extending into the sea (often seen in reviews). The atmosphere here is friendly, backpacker style. It's a beautiful spot to watch the sunrise and good for fishing/squid fishing.
• Ao Saeng Thian: A bay that retains a high degree of natural beauty. Quiet and peaceful, with beautiful rock formations, white sand, and clear water. Perfect for those who want to truly disconnect from the hustle and bustle.
• Ao Nuan: A small, mysterious bay. The sand might be mixed with some rocks, but it's incredibly peaceful with almost no buildings, perfect for those seeking solitude.
• Ao Wai: A beach with incredibly fine and clear white sand. It's an exceptionally quiet and clean bay, shaded by a line of sea cypress trees, ideal for swimming and private relaxation.
• Ao Kiu (Ao Kiu Nok / Ao Kiu Nai): Located towards the southern end of the island, this bay is highly exclusive and home to luxury resorts. The cool thing is that you can walk between the east and west sides to watch both the sunrise and sunset in close proximity.
• Ao Pakarang: The southernmost point of Koh Samet, this viewpoint offers a raw, natural atmosphere with shallow coral reefs and rocks, perfect for snorkeling and watching the sunset.
4. For those seeking luxury and romance while watching the sunset. (West Side)
• Ao Phrao: This is the only bay on the west side of Koh Samet (almost all other bays are on the east side). It's known for its luxury, privacy, and is considered the most beautiful sunset spot on Koh Samet. It boasts a long beach with white sand, clear water, and relatively calm waves. It's home to high-end resorts, making it ideal for couples or honeymoon trips.
Tips for choosing a bay:
• If you prioritize easy access, readily available food, and parties: We recommend Sai Kaew Beach, Ao Pai, and Ao Wong Duean.
• If you prioritize relaxation, quiet, beautiful sea, and relaxing photo opportunities: We recommend Ao Phrao, Ao Wai, and Ao Cho.
• Getting around between bays is easy; you can rent a motorbike to ride along the concrete roads around the island or use the green shared taxis.
Koh Samet boasts a number of fine white sandy Beaches. The famous Samet beaches are Hat Sai Kaew, Ao Noi Na, Ao Luk Yon, Ao Phai, Ao Putsa, Ao Tubtim, Ao Lung Dum, Ao Cho, Ao Tawan, Ao Wong Duean, Ao Thian, Ao Wai, Ao Kiu, Ao Pakarang, Ao Karang and Ao Phrao.
