Activities you shouldn't miss:
1. Longtail Boat Tour of the Market
A popular way to start your trip is by taking a boat ride or longtail boat along the moat surrounding the market. Enjoy the view of the replica Thai houses, wooden bridges, and various shops from a riverside perspective. The atmosphere is relaxing and pleasing to the eye. (Boat ride fee is approximately 20-30 baht per person)
2. Foodie Paradise
The food here is diverse and presented in a traditional style, available both on boats and in shops on the shore:
Savory Dishes: Authentic Ayutthaya Boat Noodles Authentic Pad Thai, Som Tum (papaya salad), fried mussels, pork satay, and seafood/grilled prawns.
Desserts & traditional Thai sweets: Khanom Thuay (steamed rice pudding), Khanom Bueang (Thai crepe), ice cream in a tube, fresh palm sugar in bamboo tubes, Khanom Kluay (banana cake), Khanom Sai Sai (stuffed rice cake), and Roti Sai Mai (cotton candy roti), a famous Ayutthaya souvenir available at many shops.
3. Historical Light and Sound Show
Another highlight that attracts tourists is the historical drama performance, based on the history of Ayutthaya, such as battle scenes, sword fighting scenes, and the heroic deeds of Thai ancestors. It features full costumes, lighting, sound, and special effects, making it fun, exciting, and educational (shows are held throughout the day).
4. Shopping for souvenirs and photo opportunities
Inside the market, there are shops selling local products, souvenirs, traditional clothing, handicrafts, woven goods, and traditional toys. Additionally, there are places to rent traditional Thai costumes to wear for photos against the backdrop of wooden bridges, traditional Thai houses, or old pagodas around the market, giving you a great retro "O-Chao" (traditional Thai drama) feel.
5. Animal Feeding Activities
Within the market area or nearby connecting areas, there are small activity spots for families, such as feeding fish, feeding goats, and feeding elephants, as well as elephant rides to see the ancient sites around the area.
